Advocacy

SLIHC supports government policies that make housing development and operation more affordable, that increase funding for the development and operation of housing for people with extremely low incomes, and that maintain funding for subsidized housing programs.

SLIHC is a member of the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance (WLIHA) and supports WLIHA’s State and Federal legislative agendas. A perennial priority is funding for the Washington State Housing Trust Fund, which is a major source of financing affordable housing development.

SLIHC and its members meet at least annually with our U.S. Congress persons and/or their local staffs: 5th District Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell, and U.S. Senator Patty Murray. SLIHC’s 2010-2011 Federal priorities include capitalization of the National Housing Trust Fund, continued support of homeownership programs, improvements in the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program, continuation of the Sec. 811 and Sec. 202 housing production programs, and the most generous budget for McKinney-Vento programs, which provide funds to reduce homelessness.
