We envision a Spokane community in which everyone has the opportunity to live in a safe and affordable home.
What We Do
  • Work with community organizations—nonprofit, for profit and public—to improve the quality of life for everyone.
  • Advocate for, acquire and provide resources to increase the availability of affordable housing and service programs.
  • Achieve policy changes that expand affordable housing opportunities.
  • Help preserve our affordable housing communities.
  • Help our community make informed decisions about affordable housing development.
  • Work with others to prevent and reduce homelessness.

History
In 1989, the Greater Spokane Coalition Against Poverty (GSCAP) identified a need to increase the availability of housing for Spokane residents of low income. GSCAP called for a mechanism to encourage and facilitate collaboration on affordable housing development and advocacy. That mechanism is the Spokane Low Income Housing Consortium (SLIHC). We began in 1990 with 10 members.  Today, SLIHC has over 30 nonprofit and public members that develop and promote affordable housing, and more than 15 supportive members that include lenders, private sector firms, contractors, attorneys, and others that support affordable housing.
SLIHC is registered with the State as a nonprofit corporation and is also recognized as an exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS. The Consortium's annual revenue comes from membership dues, corporate and foundation grants, and corporate and individual donations.
