Advocacy

The Spokane Low Income Housing Consortium
cares about affordable housing because
  • A home is a basic human need.
  • A home gives individuals and families stability.
  • A home gives us neighbors.
  • Providing homes is the foundation of community.
  • A home provides a place to raise families.
  • A home gives our workers a place to dwell at night.

SLIHC promotes public policies that
expand affordable housing options

At the State level, SLIHC advocates for
  • a robust annual investment in the Housing Trust Fund, which provides key financing for the local development of affordable housing
  • support for programs that provide homes and services for our vulnerable citizens, including families, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities and people who are homeless
  • new sources of revenue to preserve programs that provide safe homes, support services, and pathways out of poverty for our vulnerable citizens and residents of low income.

At the Federal level, SLIHC supports
  • a robust capitalization of the National Housing Trust Fund
  • continued support of homeownership programs for people of low income
  • improvements in the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program
  • housing production programs for seniors and persons with disabilities
  • support for the Sec. 8 voucher program
  • a robust budget for McKinney-Vento programs, which provide funds to reduce homelessness.
"Watching us all work together to build a home, having it dedicated and seeing everyone's pride makes this partnership about so much more than just a home purchase. It's mending lives and starting a village."
